Namihei Odaira's Birthplace

Namihei Odaira, who founded Hitachi, Ltd., was born in 1874 in this house located in Kassenba-juku, a prosperous post town on Nikko Reiheishi Kaido Road.
After graduating from what is now the Faculty of Engineering at The University of Tokyo, he founded Hitachi, Ltd. and built Japan's first 5-horsepower motor using only domestic engineering techniques.
